What Parametric EQ actually does
Equalization is the one audio edit where a small change can be inaudible and a large one irreversible, and where the ear adapts within seconds of hearing only the result. The defence is an immediate comparison: this page keeps the original and the equalized version on one transport, and draws both waveforms on a single shared scale so a change in level is visible as well as audible.
How to use it
- Choose an audio file. The waveform is drawn locally.
- Pick a preset, or type a band list to override it with exact frequencies, widths and gains.
- Run, then switch between source and result.
Useful for
- Lifting the presence range so a voice cuts through on small speakers.
- Rolling off rumble below the useful content of a recording.
- Applying an exact, repeatable band list rather than dragging an unlabelled curve.
Limits worth knowing
- Boosting a frequency that carries no content amplifies the noise there instead.
- The band list is parsed strictly; a band missing a frequency, width or gain is refused rather than guessed at.
- Output is re-encoded, so a lossy source stays lossy.

What does the band syntax mean?
Each band names a centre frequency, a filter type, a width and a gain in decibels, and bands are separated by a vertical bar.
Why did the level change?
Boosting bands raises overall level. The two waveforms share one scale so the change is visible, and the loudness tool sets a target afterwards.
